WHAT TYPE OF TESTING HAS THE DEFENDER GONE THROUGH?

Embarking on Expedition 001, the Defender will see a culmination of exhaustive global testing where the model will complete 45,000 individual tests and endure temperatures that range form -40 to +50 Celsius. Prototype Defender models have already supported lion conservation efforts in Borana, Kenya and driven among the dunes of Dubai by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies fleet experts.

HOW IS THE LAND ROVER DEFENDER INVOLVED IN THE TUSK CHARITY AND KENYA?

For 15 years, Land Rover has been an official partner of Tusk, a wildlife conservation charity. The new Defender underwent testing in Kenya with Tusk to support the lion conservation efforts in Africa. The specially camouflaged Defender prototype model was utilized by wildlife managers to support their efforts across the 14,000-hectare Borana Conservancy! This unique test program allowed the Tusk operatives to put the Defender through a series of real-world tests.  Fitted with an integrated raised air intake, the new Defender towed supplies and forged rivers allowed the wildlife managers to operate while also tracking the prides of lions. This unique experience allowed Land Rover to collect valuable performance data of the Defender while it was in the testing and development phase.

THE DEFENDER WAS ALSO TESTED IN DUBAI?

On the next step of the Defender’s testing program, 4×4 experts worked with the International Federation of Red Cross and the Red Cresent Societies (IRFC) global fleet in Dubai. The Defender tackled the region’s famous sand dunes and renowned Jebel Jais highway hairpins on the way up the tallest mountain in the UAE. The IFRC tested the Defender in the soft sand, dominating steep ascents, side slopes, and blind crests with the ease you would expect from a capable Land Rover model. Temperatures reached 40-degrees on the iconic highway, where the Defender displayed its comfort on the road with agile handling and scaling altitudes of nearly 2,000m. This test coincides with Land Rover’s global partnership renewal with the IFRC which dates back 65 years when the first Land Rover entered the region as a mobile dispensary.
