A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is essentially a bridge between hybrid and all-electric, mating gas power with electric motors and a rechargeable battery pack. Here at Land Rover North Dade, we’re proud to offer the latest Land Rover and Range Rover models, including the Range Rover PHEV. Continue reading below to learn more about the Range Rover PHEV, its benefits, and where to get yours!

What Are the Range Rover PHEV Options?

The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport PHEVs come with the P440e powertrain. With the Range Rover’s P440e system, you’ll find a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine supported by a transmission-mounted electric motor powered by a 31.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack. In total, this system gives the Range Rover 434 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque for the Range Rover PHEV, while the Range Rover Sport PHEV offers 457 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, both of the Range Rover PHEV models offer up to 48 miles of fully-electric driving on a full charge. Land Rover has plans for two fully-electric models for the 2024 model year, with a total of six set to be available by 2025.

What Are the Benefits of Owning an EV?

There are many benefits to owning a PHEV. The most well-known benefit is fuel efficiency. Because PHEVs favor electric power and only use the gas engine to supply the need for additional power, this helps save money on gas. While all-electric vehicles are nice because they use no gas at all, you are limited to a battery charge. However, with a PHEV, even if your battery runs out of charge, you can continue driving so long as you have gas in the tank, giving you more freedom to roam. In addition to the money-saving benefits, you also experience better performance with electric power, as torque is instantly available without needing to wait for engine RPMs to build. In fact, the Range Rover PHEV offers a 0-60 time of just 5.5 seconds! Additionally, EV owners experience lower maintenance costs as there are fewer mechanical components. Even PHEV owners experience this, as the gas engine is running less often than a gas-only vehicle.

How is an EV Battery Charged?

With the purchase of a Land Rover PHEV comes a Mode 2 charging cable. The cable connects to a regular wall socket, recharging the vehicle in approximately 14 hours. The cable is weatherproof and designed to charge inside or outside no matter what the weather is. You can also choose to have a wall box charger installed. This is a professionally installed home charging station that can charge your vehicle in as little as two hours and forty-five minutes. To give you a charge on the go, there are nearly 500 EV charging stations around Miami, leaving you never far from a charge. Like any other kind of electric vehicle, Land Rover PHEVs use a process called regenerative braking to recharge the battery on the go. This works by harvesting kinetic energy created by braking, translating it into electrical energy, and sending the energy back to the battery pack to increase or maintain the state of its charge. The process begins as soon as you let off the gas pedal and continues as you brake until you press the gas pedal again.
